Introdans
Modern Girls

Three idiosyncratic choreographers from different generations: that’s Modern Girls in 2018. Didy Veldman’s intimate, personal creation was inspired by Picasso’s painting Three Dancers. Regina van Berkel’s theatrical choreography Frozen Echo unfolds like a Salvador Dalí film. And the icing on the cake is provided by American great Lucinda Childs, who presents a world premiere to the music of the French hit film Intouchables.

Kiev Credo Choir
A Russian Orthodox Christmas

Few ensembles do Russian Orthodox as impressively as the Kiev Credo Choir. They’re close to the source, because the Orthodox repertoire was created in Kiev as far back as the tenth century, when the city had just converted to Christianity. The choir masters of the new churches initially based their chants on the single-voice religious music of the Greeks and Bulgarians, but soon began to compose their own pieces, leading to a flowering of polyphonic choir music. This is music where time seems to have stood still.

Holland Baroque
Les Cloches de Noël

Joël Grare was a guest at Holland Baroque before, and he’s back to once again draw you into his secret world of never-before-heard sounds, where bells sound entirely differently and chimes ring out like they’ve never done before. You can hear the snowflakes drift down in the fields, while bells ring out over the countryside. Wintry scenes, for the ultimate Christmas feeling.

Música Temprana
Christmas music from Ecuador

The Jesuits who travelled to South America to preach the faith from the 17th century on did not just cross the ocean with bibles – they brought musical instruments as well, and taught composition. This created the exotic Baroque music with which Adrián Rodríguez Van der Spoel and his ensemble Música Temprana are conquering festivals and concert halls. In Ecuador, he discovered polyphonic masterpieces for the Church liturgy, but also beautiful songs that were sung in bars and out in the fields. He took the most beautiful of these to compile an inspiring programme.

Nick van Bloss
Piano maestro

He suffers from Tourette syndrome – but when he plays the piano, the storm in his head grows quiet. And that’s when miracles occur. That’s when everything around him stops, leaving only the music that he, with his turbulent creativity, lifts to unprecedented heights. The English pianist Nick van Bloss is a true phenomenon, and we have great expectations of his debut in the Netherlands with Bach’s Goldberg Variations. He has already received sustained applause and cheers in London’s prestigious Wigmore Hall.

Charkov City Opera & Ballet
Swan Lake

Swan Lake, from 1894, is of a timeless beauty. Marius Petipa and his assistant Lev Ivanov were at the pinnacle of their ability when they wrote the choreography to Tchaikovsky’s magnificent music. The romantic story tells of the love between Prince Siegfried and Princess Odette, who has been turned into a swan by the wizard Rotbart. Only true love can break the spell. With a live orchestra.

The Tatar State Opera
Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty is considered the composer Tchaikovsky’s most beautiful ballet, and is Marius Petipa’s choreographic masterpiece. It deserves its acclaim as one of the highlights of the Classical-Romantic ballet genre, and in this performance it is interpreted in grand, romantic and impressive fashion. Sleeping Beauty tells the story of Princess Aurora, who pricks her finger on a spindle on her sixteenth birthday and is woken after one hundred years of sleep by the kiss of a prince. Suitable for all ages, it is the perfect family show.

Les Siècles
An homage to Mozart

The orchestra Les Siècles is currently sweeping the largest concert halls and festivals. The musicians play old instruments and copies, but never get entangled in academic hair-splitting. Inspired and full of passion, they are winning award after musical award with their permanent conductor Franz-Xavier Roth. Their Mozart symphonies are lauded in the grandest terms, and they will be bringing his 39th and 41st, Jupiter, to the Zuiderstrandtheater. It promises to be one of the highlights of the season!
